About Us

The Round, a brand founded by Mirko Compagno and Marco Pesci, is made up of a group of researchers who are experts in information technology and digital technologies. Thanks to its founders, The Round has begun, among the first ones in Italy, to create products – and then services – in Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality since 2009, following the continuous evolution of techniques, methodologies and tools.

Progressively the conformation of The Round team has expanded by including IT experts in different areas: from eXtended Reality to Web Development, from Human-Computer Interaction to Digital Marketing and e-Learning 4.0. The main feature of the group is the ability to integrate innovative digital technologies. Currently the group is carrying out projects in which eXtended Reality is integrated with Artificial Intelligence (AIXReal project 2021).

The Round has been collaborating for years with important companies engaged in Advanced Research and Development of Engineering and IT Products and Services for the various business areas: Cultural Heritage, Health, Transport, Industry, Defense, Telecommunications, Aerospace, Education, Agriculture.

Since 2017 The Round is division “eXtended Reality and Innovation Management” of Intech microwaves Srl.

eXtended Reality

XR encompasses all immersive technologies which expand our real-world and combine them with virtual elements. It is a mode of interaction that includes augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality.

Augmented Reality

AR involves the projection of digital elements – such as information, graphics, animation or images onto the real world so that the digital content being superimposed looks like it is part of the physical world.

Virtual Reality

Virtual reality (VR) provides a computer-generated 3D environment that surrounds a user and responds to an individual’s actions in a natural way, usually through immersive head-mounted displays. Gesture recognition or handheld controllers provide hand and body tracking.

Mixed reality

Mixed reality (MR) is a user environment in which physical reality and digital content are combined in a way that enables interaction with and among real-world and virtual objects. Unlike virtual reality (VR) which immerses the end-user in a completely digital environment, or augmented reality (AR) which layers digital content on top of a physical environment, mixed reality blends digital and real-world settings.

UX / UI DESIGN

User experience (UX) design is the process design teams use to create products that provide meaningful and relevant experiences to users. User interface (UI) design is the process designers use to build interfaces in software or computerized devices, focusing on looks or style.

Multimodal and Natural Interaction

The term MULTIMODAL AND NATURAL INTERACTION refers to the combination of several (multi) natural methods of communication to interact with a system. Natural modalities of communication are, amongst others, gesture, gaze, speech, and touch; thereby making it more intuitive to untrained users. This interaction interface allows a user to employ their skilled and coordinated communicative behavior to control systems more naturally.

Natural User Interface design

User interfaces that you interact with using modalities such as touch, gestures, or voice are often referred to as Natural User Interfaces (NUI). We consider them interfaces that we find so easy to use that they feel natural.

Human-Computer Interaction

A discipline dealing with the design, evaluation, and implementation of interactive computing systems for human use and with the study of the major phenomena surrounding them.

Elearning 4.0

We have been producing e-learning content for large companies, SMEs and training institutions for 20 years. By the term e-learning 4.0 we mean a new generation of such contents in which some of the enabling technologies of Industry 4.0 such as augmented reality and 3D printing are implemented.

Course Creation

The actual production of the software version of a course for online delivery and the supporting instructional materials. Companies involved in the development of online courses are often required to have technology-specific knowledge and skills – digitizing, converting file formats, operation of specific software programs, and programming.
